“Executive Action is Not about the Political Playbooks; It’s about the History Books”

Washington, DC –Following is a response from Eddie Carmona, Campaign Manager for PICO National Network’s Campaign for Citizenship reacting to tonight’s address from the President on executive action:

“The President has finally recognized that he must act to protect the humanity of undocumented immigrants who came to the United States to seek a better life for themselves and their families, and we’re extremely heartened by his decision.

“As he said tonight, this announcement is about keeping families together.  It’s about ensuring that people who are Americans in all but the paperwork can live and work without the constant fear of getting ripped away from the country they love.  It’s about ensuring that U.S. citizen children have the opportunity to grow up with their parents by their side.

“Executive action is not about the political playbooks; it’s about the history books and ensuring that future generations will follow the President’s lead by treating the immigrant community with the respect and dignity they deserve.

“While not perfect, today’s announcement is an important step forward in the movement for immigrant rights and a major step towards making the dream of citizenship achievable for all Americans without papers.

“Thank you to our communities and congregations for working so hard to make this moment a reality.  Because of you, millions of immigrant families can rest easily tonight.”
