One thousand people gather to launch Vermont Interfaith Action, move state health care plan
Vermont Interfaith Action
On Sunday, June 5 1,000 people met at St. Joseph's Co-Cathedral in Burlington to press state officials to reach an agreement on a plan to guarantee health coverage to all Vermont residents. They also presented proposals to Governor Jim Douglas, Speaker of the House Gaye Symington, State Senate President Pro Tem Peter Welch, Burlington Mayor Peter Clavelle, Acting School Superintendent Jeanne Collins and Congressman Bernie Sanders to expand opportunities for youth and address the housing crisis facing Burlington and the state. Seven congregations in Burlington organized the meeting as part of Vermont Interfaith Action, a new state-wide effort by the faith community to improve life and opportunities for Vermont families. Vermont Interfaith Action is part of the PICO National Network, which works in 150 cities and 18 states to strengthen families and improve neighborhoods.
