PICO pastor featured on Kaiser's online healthcare series
PICO National Network

The Kaiser Family Foundation's health08.org website has unveiled a new online video series called "Viewpoints: The Health Care Debate," which features interviews with leaders of organizations representing health care providers, insurers, policymakers, employers, labor unions and consumers sharing their views on the challenges facing the nation's health care system and how it could be improved.

This week, the series features Rev. Heyward Wiggins, Camden pastor and PICO National Network steering committee member, talking about PICO's work to provide quality, affordable health coverage to the estimated 47 million uninsured people across the U.S., including 9 million uninsured children.

"Healthcare, I think, is the lynch pin," said Rev. Wiggins. "Unhealthy people cannot work, which means that they probably cannot afford houses, they probably cannot take care of their children…So for us healthcare is a priority. Children need to be covered; our adults need to be covered so they can really make a full and vital contribution to the society in which we live."

Each week, new interviews will appear on the health08.org website, featuring prominent figures in the health care debate, including top executives from Families USA, National Governors Association, American Cancer Society, American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, American Medical Association, Children's Defense Fund, and Service Employees International Union.  The interviews can be viewed at http://www.kaisernetwork.org/health_cast/health2008hc.cfm?hc=2599
