Immigrant Leaders in Brooklyn meet with U.S. Senator Charles Schumer
Community Action Project
The Community Action Project rallied 300 people for their General Assembly in
Flatbush, Brooklyn to celebrate their work on immigration, health care,
education, and public safety. The Assembly was comprised of immigrants from
Haiti, English-Speaking Caribbean Islands such as Jamaica and Trinidad, Mexico,
Puerto Rico, and Pakistan. The immigrants were joined by their African American
and Caucasian neighbors. At this joyous celebration, the rainbow of community
members exhorted their elected officials to continue to fight for justice.
Senator Schumer (D-NY) confirmed his attendance after CAP leaders traveled to
Washington, DC as part of the PICO national assembly to meet with his staff. He
was joined at the Assembly by Congressman Major Owens, NY State Assembly members
James Brennan, Nick Perry and Rhoda Jacobs, and Brooklyn's Borough President
Marty Markowitz.
