Camden Churches Organized for People mobilized more than 800 faith-community members to meet with New Jersey Attorney General Anne Milgram and the city's state-appointed Chief Operating Officer.  Church-community leaders lifted up the painful impact of violent crime on families and the lack of permanent police leadership in the city and presented proposals for new leadership and new policing strategies to improve public safety in Camden. 

The Attorney General endorsed CCOP's recommendation to create a new position of Civilian Police Director to guide the Police Department, but would not commit to a timeline to fill that post or the vacant Police Chief position.  CCOP is also pushing for implementation of a Problem-Solving Community Policing model.  CCOP leaders pledged to continue fighting for urgent action by state officials to bring outside leadership into the department.
