Congresswoman pledges support for community effort
Affliliated Congregations to Improve our Neighborhoods

Monday February 21st at Open Door Ministries, 601 NE 19th Street, Congresswoman Corrine Brown met with 50 ACTION Network Leaders. Congresswoman Brown saw a presentation on east Gainesville and its dilapidated streets and open ditches that the community said have not been addressed in 30 years and that pose a threat to the welfare of families in the community. Congresswoman Brown said that this is a problem affecting communities across the United States. She is a leading Democrat on Congress's Transportation Committee and said that if the city would put in a request she would help get funding to repair the roads and ditches. On hand was Commissioner Rick Bryant who said he would go to city hall that afternoon and get Open Door Ministries on the city's agenda. Congresswoman Brown said that she would meet with ACTION Network leaders in Washington, DC and said it needed to be a working meeting to look for funding and that there was a possibility of funding for this year.
