National Faith, Labor and Immigration Organizations Call on More House Republicans to Co-Sponsor H.R. 15 and Urge House Leaders to Allow a Vote on a Path to Citizenship
Groups Announce Plans to Support a Targeted Local Campaign in Congressman Denham’s District

In light of Representative Jeff Denham’s (R-CA) announcement that he will sign on as a co-sponsor of HR 15, a bi-partisan immigration bill, national faith, immigrant and labor organizations announced that they would be supporting a large-scale campaign by their local affiliates in CA Congressional District 10.  The effort will both thank Congressman Denham for his decision, and further urge him to press his Republican colleagues and Speaker Boehner to allow a vote on a path to citizenship in November.

PICO National Network, Fair Immigration Reform Movement, AFL-CIO, SEIU, Mi Familia Vota, America’s Voice and the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) will be working in tandem to support door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, public events and paid radio ads designed to reach tens of thousands of local residents.  The effort will be run by local grassroots leaders and organizations.  In order to build more pressure for a vote on citizenship they will be asking people to call Congressman Denham to thank him for his decision and to ask him to press Speaker Boehner and the House Republican leadership to allow a vote.

Our organizations are sending a message not only to Congressman Jeff Denham, but to other Members of Congress who claim to be pro-immigrant.  We want them to hear clearly that immigrants and their allies are watching their decisions on citizenship closely and expect them to do everything in their power to deliver a vote on a path to citizenship.  We won’t let up on our pressure until House Leadership acts.

The grassroots campaign in Congressional District 10 will kick-off on Monday with a local press conference at Congressman Denham’s District Office, 4701 Sisk Road, Modesto at 11:30am PST.  A formal rollout of the effort taking place in other key Congressional Districts will be announced the week of November 4th.
