PICO Applauds Senators Urging Administrative Relief for DREAM-Eligible Students and Youth

PICO faith and community leaders agree that we must support our talented students and young leaders

The PICO National Network applauds the twenty-two Senators that issued a letter to President Obama last week urging him to grant deferred action or other measures to give relief to young people who would be eligible for the DREAM Act.  This would ensure that talented and responsible young people who have lived and grown up in the United States will no longer be detained and deported simply because they have no means by which to adjust their immigration status within our broken immigration system.

"Undocumented youth like me have grown up in this country. It's all we know. It is unfair to deny us the basic human right to create a better future for ourselves and contribute to society," says Yesenya, youth leader with Metro Organizations for People, a federation of the PICO National Network.

PICO joins with other faith, youth, civil rights, immigrant and community organizations in calling on President Obama to halt his Administration's overly harsh enforcement actions against DREAM youth and urges the President and the Administration to give relief to DREAM eligible students and youth. As people of faith, we support the DREAM Act and our DREAM eligible young people because we believe in protecting the dignity of every human being; allowing all people to fulfill their God given potential.
