St. Paul the Apostle Church and QCUA fight for Queen's Libraries
April 24, 2010
More than 60 leaders from St. Paul the Apostle Church and the surrounding community marched to the Lefrak City Library and held a press conference with Councilman Daniel Dromm, Assemblyman Jeff Aubry and State Senator José Peralta to urge city and state legislators to re-open the Lefrak City Library and prevent future cuts to all Queens Libraries.
At the event, children presented petitions with more than 200 signatures from residents in the area and officials responded.
All three legislators committed their support to the libraries and the youth. Senator Peralta announced his pledge of $50,000 to the Queens Library System. As the gathering ended, Father Darrell Da Costa blessed everyone present, saying. "We ask you that you open our hearts so that we can open doors for the education of our youth," he said as he blessed the work of everyone present.
We ended telling everyone about Three easy ways to help our libraries:
- Take out a book and increase circulation
- Fill out your census forms so that we receive our fair share of funds. This means opening your door to the census workers who will be coming around to make sure we're all counted
- Sign petitions: http://www.savequeenslibrary.org/
