PICO federations register new voters, educate the public on critical civic issues, and provide a means for people to participate in shaping public policy.

Here are some examples:

Baldwin County ACT in Alabama won new voting precincts that provide two rural black and one rural white community with voting precincts and nearby polling places.

Leaders in Denver, San Diego, Sacramento and other cities built community support for successful school bond measures to fix deteriorated schools.

ACTION Network in Gainesville, Florida changed policy to allow renters to vote in neighborhood improvement balloting.

Community Action Project (CAP) in Brooklyn, New York helped win new redistricting in Brooklyn as a result of its voter registration and education campaign.

Central Brooklyn Churches helped win passage of state legislation that insures that parents are the majority on new District Education Councils in the public schools.

Orange County Congregation Community Organization (OCCCO) in California and other PICO organizations across the country have spearheaded voter registration efforts to give Latino immigrants a voice in local government.
