A Youth to Look Up To

Karla Carranza, an 8th grader at Bruce Randolph School in Denver, Colorado, has been youth leader with Metro Organizations for People (MOP) since 2006.

As a 7th grader she joined the Grizzly Organizing Committee, MOP’s youth organizing committee at Bruce Randolph, a result of her mother’s involvement with MOP. Now, as an 8th grader she is a MOP board member and an influential person among her peers.

After testifying in front of the Colorado Legislature, she says her friends and fellow leaders “look up to me and ask me for help.” She attributes this to all of the opportunities that Bruce Randolph has provided for her, most notably the ability to participate with MOP as a youth leader.

She recently wrote a speech for speech team tryouts describing her transformation over the past two years.

“MOP made me a different person. I am now a youth student leader helping others in need. Before I got to Bruce Randolph I admit my grades were not the best, but as soon as I got to Bruce Randolph my grades became better than I could have expected. I have become a better person and I owe all the thanks to Bruce Randolph and MOP.”

Karla looks forward to starting high school next year and continuing as a leader with MOP.
